The Swinburne Tinkerers Guild's Pleurobot is a re-imagining of the EPFL's (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) Robotic Lizard.
It aims to develop student skills acting as a point for integration of the latest technologies such as Machine Learning, Robotic control, Underwater Propulsion, Collision Detection, First Person Vision and Remote Control.
These technologies brought together combine into an active learning solution to the problems faced in disaster zones. This means that search and rescue teams can quickly and effectively deploy a semi-autonomous, remotely controlled robot into a situation which is unsuitable or unsafe for humans, saving lives and allowing for greater access to small and restricting areas.
